Afghan Turkmen Tribal Head Piece - Ceremonial Tribal Jewellery Qobbah
Like much Turkman Tribal Jewelry, this amazing ceremonial headpiece is worn with pride to designate status and position on important occasions. Young women put on these "caps" (Qobbah; Gupbo) around the time of their marriage. Not surprisingly these headpieces are rich with tribal jewelry symbolism and ritual.
For example, the cowry shells represent the romantic side of the feminine and the promise of fertility. The blue color of the fabric is associated with water, and the forehead dangles represent rain, also a form a water...water in Turkmen and other Tribal Societies almost always symbolizes the highest form of the feminine as it supports life for all things. The coin-shaped decorations (shitaq) are found in many forms of adornment from this region. They are often sewn onto fabric for both men and women, and symbolize prosperity for the wearer and family members.
This is a wonderful piece of authentic Afghan Turkman Tribal Jewelry, rich with symbolism and heritage. It was handcrafted by a family of Afghan Tribal Jewelry artisans living in Peshawar along the Afghan border.
