About African Trade Beads -
Collectors of fine African Trade beads categorize them by the region in which they are found or most commonly worn - this is not always the region in which they were made, however. In particular, many glass trade beads were made in other areas or countries originally, but are now almost exclusively identified with African Regions. For example, the tube-shaped colorful millefiore trade beads are typically recognized as African Trade Beads, although most millefiore trade beads were originally made in Venice during or before the 1800's, finding their way to Africa through decades of trade. Other glass African Trade beads also originated from other areas, typically Chechoslovakia, Germany, England, or Venice before joining the cultures and ceremonies of Africa.
