Amber
Amber Jewelry at Tribal Muse
True amber was created thousands of years ago from the fossilized sap of ancient trees. The amber "stones" sometimes have inclusions such as insects or leaves which where mixed in during the hardening process. Amber comes in a variety of colors, from pale honey amber, to opaque butterscotch amber, as wells as deep mahogany tones. Surprisingly lightweight, it has been prized in jewelry making for centuries, and has even been traded as money. Today, much Amber comes from the Baltic region and is very highly valued.
There are many imitations or "faux" amber, and several contemporary tribal artisans have incorporated the "faux" amber into their ethnic and tribal pieces. We will always tell if you what you are looking at is real amber or "faux" amber...but you can usually tell from the price, since "faux" amber is considerable less expensive than genuine amber. Always feel free to contact us if you have any questions about our jewelry...we welcome your inquiries.
