Old Tibetan Large Tribal Pendant in Turquoise, Coral, Brass and Silver - Collectible Museum Quality
This beautiful large antique pendant was handcrafted in early to mid 1900's by master artisans. Shaped as stylized rams horns for protection, this antique pendant is rimmed with perfectly inlaid red coral beads. Ornate brasswork fills the center, with tendrils flanking the Life Knot, or Endless Knot (Shirivasta) ...a symbol of good fortune and one of the 8 sacred Tibetan auspicious symbols. The center holds a rich blue Lapis Lazuli stone...the color of the night sky. Above, a Deep Turquoise bead is of the color found in Tibet's Flying Horse Mine and shaped as a circle (also called a "chakra"). It is held in place by a raised silver bezel and center prong...a treatment found uniquely in tribal jewelry. The scrolls on the upper portion symbolize clouds, which are deeply revered in Tibet where 90% of the country is at extremely high altitudes ("a land in the clouds"). The pendant back has a pattern of finely placed Turquoise Mosaic set in generous Silver. The upper and lower portions are articulated, that is, they are linked together so that each section can movement independently, while retaining the overall oneness of the piece. This one-of-a-kind Old Tibetan pendant is a Collectible Museum Quality piece. It is getting more and more difficult to find old pieces like this, since much of the Old Tibetan Jewelry is being sold to local merchants to be melted down for the silver value in tough economic times, and never makes it to market.
