Incredible antique Tibetan Necklace handcrafted with Turquoise, Coral, Amber (real), Lapis, Silver and Brass. An extraordinary piece. The large pendant is shaped as a stylized female figure with amber, lapis, and coral beads set in raised bezels. A mosaic of perfectly set Turquoise accents the ornate front brass work and the unusual strand cones along each side. The large pendant itself is made of silver, with the intricate beads and brass affixed over the silver. Although gold deposits are found naturally in Tibet, Tibetans seldom used gold in jewelry making, but preferred to accent their jewelry with brass, believing that gold was an element reserved for sacred dieties and could bring them bad luck if they used it in their own jewelry. 

 

The multiple beaded strands on either side are old coral, yak bone, brass and turquoise beads. The closure is a button type tuquoise clasp. Extraordinary antique pieces like this are getting harder and harder to find. When the economy is poor, local tribal people tend to melt down their old jewelry for the silver value and these beautiful works of Museum Quality are lost forever.
