Antique Kuchi Tribal Jewelry Torc Necklace - Collectible Museum Quality
This gorgeous antique necklace is called a Torc (Torque, Tawque) necklace. This style neckring is found in several tribal areas throughout the Middle East, Far East, and Egypt. This is an especially gorgeous one, studded with colored beads and elaborate metal work from the Pashtun Kuchi in Afghanistan handcrafted 50-70 years ago. The name Scythian Pectoral comes from its half-moon shape which resembles a farmer's scythe for cutting grains. This exuberant Torc also has dangles rimming the edge that clatter noisily with every movement. The neck opening is wide enough to fit an average-sized adult woman's neck. A similar Collectible Museum Quality Torc Neck-ring can be found on page 498 of the Seiwert's "Treasures from the Bir Collection."
About the Kuchi:
The Kuchi are a nomadic people, not belonging to any one country or ethnic group. For centuries they traveled freely across national borders throughout the Middle East and
Central Asia. Their jewelry and clothing is especially renown for its variety, wonderful colors, and exuberance.
