This stunning Turkmen Asyk Pendant was ornately handcrafted in high grade Silver with a rich Tuquoise stone set in a raised bezel. A single bright coral bead sits in the center of the lozenge-shaped upper portion. The beautiful silverwork is done using the meticulous granulation technique, in which tiny beads of silver are fused to the front of the pendant to form classic designs...in this case, the granulated silver has been carefully crafted into the repeating triangular patterns found in traditional Khazaki jewellery. Gold wash (gilding) in the recessed areas accentuates the silver pattern for added dimension.

 

Asyk pendants are very typical Turkmen jewelry. Women are given these in great numbers as wedding presents by well-wishers who want to offer their blessings for a happy marriage. They are made in various sizes and designs, but always with the same unique shape. This is a particularly beautiful and delicately handmade piece of Collectible Museum Quality jewelry that is more than 70 years old. Excellent condition with mild patina.
