This incredible large Turkmen Tumar medallion is an antique piece of handcrafted quality Turkmen Tribal Jewellery from the early to mid-1900's. Old tribal jewelry pieces like this are getting harder and harder to find, and often melted down for their wealth in silver. Its classic styling includes the traditional Turkmen repeating trefoil motif along the upper edges. The fine etched silverwork is finished with gold wash (gilding) to highlight the Turkmen Tribal incised patterns. 14 carnelian eye-shaped beads and 1 red oval carnelian are set in raised silver bezels, all vibrantly red in color, protecting the wearer from any evil eye that would be cast by others. The horizontal bar-shaped portion along the midsection is actually a hollow container, the tumar's hidden space for holding precious prayers, wishes, and secrets.
