These fascinating Old Tribal Hoop Earrings are Extra Large beauties that were handcrafted in the Turkmen Bajaur Tribal Areas along the Afghan border in the late 1900's. This style is typical of this region, expressing drama and excitement. Because of their large size, many people will also wear these earrings attached to hair braids, veils/scarves, or head chains along the side of the face in the area of the temples...hence the name "temple jewelry" for pieces worn this way. When worn as temple jewelry, these earrings hang over and just in front of the ear, giving the illusion of very large earrings that pierce the ear.
