Garuda Old Guardian Pendant - Handcrafted in Nepal of Cast Brass
This unusual old brass pendant is of Garuda - blessed diety of Tibetan Hindu's and the beloved protector of Vishnu. Half-bird and half-man, Garuda is believed to have the ability to overcome any obstacle or evil. Wearing his image is believed to be a protection against all the evils encountered along life's journey.
Two styles of handmade vintage Garuda pendants to chose from. Pendant A represents the diety as he is often depicted, holding a "pearl" and surrounded by serpents (which is his favorite food). Pendant B depicts Garuda's bird beak clearly holding a serpent that coils down around his legs to the ground, in another classic pose. Both pendants look great on a leather cord or ribbon, and as men's jewelry. 30 years old handcrafted in Nepal. Price is for one pendant.
These are perfect vintage replicas of ancient Thogchags - an artform unique to pre-Buddhist Tibet. Please See the informative article by J. V. Bellezza at the Thomas Cole website to learn more about this very distinct and unusual art form.
