African Tuareg Vintage Tribal Jewelry Tscherot
The Tscherot (Tchirot) is an archetypical Tuareg Jewelry Amulet. Historically, the Tuareg are a nomadic people who wander freely across the borders of the various desert nations in North Africa. Because the desert (tenere) is extremely hot during the day, they frequently sojourn at night, using familiar stars as a reliable compass. The Tscherot pendant is shaped like the outline of a Tuareg man's torso when he is standing in the moonlight with his arms crossed. Tuareg men and women are equals in everything, including their penchant for wearing elegant and symbolic jewelry. Although the Tcherot is typically considered a Tuareg man's necklace, today women also wear this unusual pendant.
Tchirot are considered to be powerful amulets that guarantee a safe night's journey for the wearer and his group. They are always beautifully engraved with Tuareg tribal symbols and frequently include star patterns and constellations. This Tscherot was handcrafted in Tuareg Silver and Brass, and hangs traditional leather cording. It is a stunning example of collectible Tuareg Tribal Jewelry.
