This gorgeous 2-banded cuff bracelet is called a Bilezik, and was worn by Turkmen Tekke Tribal women...frequently in pairs. They were handcrafted of silver and metal alloy 1900-1930's by Tribal Jewelry Artisans using classic Turkmen techniques such as fire glazed gilding or goldwash applied in styled pattern specific for each individual. Each of the 2 cuff bands(qoshmah) on this bracelet are studded with eye shaped red glass beads set in raised silver bezels...the color red is a deliberate choice, symbolizing the vital life force that courses through our veins. It is believed that wearing red stones like these strengthens that vital force and invigorates it for the wearer. The eye shape of the silver bezels represents protection against any evil eye or harmful energy directed towards the wearer.
