Old Turkoman Pendant - Great Tribal Jewelry Piece
This beautiful Old Turkoman Tribal Pendant is made of gold-washed (gilded) Silver with traditional etched designs and carved hearts. 5 red glass beads are arranged like the 5 stars of the Southern Cross constellation ... The 4 outer "stars" represent the 4 directions of the universe, and the central "star" symbolizes unity. The southern cross is believed to guide the wearer to good fortune and happiness.
This pendant is in excellent condition, with a modest patina and mild wear patterns. This style was traditionally worn by Turkoman women at the neck to hold their cloaks in place. Today they are worn on necklaces, brooches, belts, pins, and as hair and head dress ornaments. Handcrafted 1900's.
