Virtually all reasonably priced red coral on the market today is naturally dyed to enhance the color as are the beads on this necklace...it is against marine law to harvest undyed red coral since it will kill the coral. As a result, the lighter shades of coral...or those corals that have already died naturally...are the only ones that can be readily harvested today. Made of calcium deposits, coral contains natural occlusions, or dark areas that are the hallmark of real coral.
