This beautiful Tuareg Necklace was handcrafted by African Tuareg Jewelry artisans with a large donut-shaped deep-red carnelian stone set in incised Tuareg silver. Tuareg designs classically consist of repeating patterns of incised lines that form geometric shapes. Each incised line represents a highly valued animal or person belonging to the artisan's tribe. The Tuareg artisan signed this unique piece on the back using recognizable lines as his personalized hallmark. The oval shape of the Carnelian pendant symbolizes the full moon which guides and protects them on their night journeys through the desert. Beautifully strung on black onyx beaded chain with a simple clasp.
