Banded Cuff Bracelets like this are classic Turkmen, traditionally worn by women at celebrations, usually in pairs with one on each arm. The Turkmen call these bracelets Qasli Bilezik, and each band is called a qoshmah. The number of bands, or qoshmah, that a woman has on her bizelik is an individual preference or family tradition.

 

The Turkmen Teke design on this large Turkmen Cuff is immediately apparent in the gilding technique, in which golden highlights accentuate repeating patterns. The 12 Turquoise stones on each bracelet (3 on each of the 4 bands) sit in raised bezels for added dimension. The terminals have rows of 10 claws on each each side, representing stylized Tiger Teeth. fangs, or claws that fiercely protect the wearer.
