Turkmen Traditional Embroidered Cap (Taqiyah) - Vintage Tribal Head Wear
This is a beautiful vintage Traditional Turkmen Cap, called a Taqiyah or Tahya that is worn throughout Central Asia, especially among the Altaic and Uzbek Turkmen people. It was intricately hand embroidered, including the quilt-stitched colorful fabric lining for extra shape and comfort. The brightly colored embroidery was created by a highly skilled hand using a traditional dense chain-stitch with naturally dyed threads, a blend of wool and cotton.
The elaborate embroidery on Taqiyah caps often recreates geometric or floral patterns, as seen here. They are worn equally by both men, women and children. They are worn either fully pulled onto the head, or balanced the crown of the head, similar to today's pill-box hats. This is a wonderful example of a vintage Takiyah cap with small tight embroidery in a stunning design of rich natural colors in excellent condition. It looks to be crafted by the same hand that made a similar Taqiyah on our website, ab1748A-cap.
