Tekke Turkmen Tribal Jewelry Amulet - Large Vintage Tumar Pendant Necklace
Stunning Tribal Jewelry Amulet Necklace - Handcrafted vintage large Tekke Turkmen Tumar Pendant on a studded leather neckband. The amazing 3-dimensional Turkoman pendant has classic Tekke styling...the body of the pendant is gilded to accent the symbolic silver work of etched birds, flames and running water. It is generously encrusted with vibrant red carnelians and turquoise stones set in raised bezels.
The Turquoise stones on the large pendant are crafted in the traditional "eye" shape...a common treatment for stones used in Turkoman Tribal Jewelry and intended to protect the wearer from the evil eye sent by others. The pronounced horizontal portion of the pendant is the tumar itself, a hollow compartment for carrying concealed messages, wishes, and prayers. Like falling rain, 7 dangle chains terminate in rounded bells that makes a gentle sound with movement. The large Turkmen pendant itself hangs on a secure studded leather neckband. Leather is often a preferred material for neckbands or ties on jewelry from this region. It symbolizes that the wearer will be successful in their endeavors.
