This extraordinary vintage Turkman Tribal Jewelry Pendant was handcrafted in the late 1900's. It is made with fine Gold-washed (gilded) silver. The design of stylized birds and flames created by the gilding is a traditional application found in Turkmen Tekke Jewelry from this region, and associates the wearer with these powerful images from nature. The 9 carnelian stones are vibrant red and set in raised silver bezels shaped like eyes. "Eye" beads are commonly found in jewelry from this region, intended as protection against any evil eye directed towards the wearer. The upper scalloped border of the pendant is actually 3 pairs of stylized rams horns, again intended to fiercely protect the wearer from adversity.

 

The Asyk pendant was traditionally given by well wishers as a wedding present to a Turkmen bride; the more Asyks a woman had, the more goodness was wished upon her new family. Traditionally the Asyk would be worn interwoven into a woman's braids or sown onto her clothing, and later as elegant necklaces. This wonderful Triple-Asyk (Goza Asyk) has three distinct Asyk Shapes that resemble hearts. The 2 on the far left and right are immediately recognizable ... the 3rd is depicted in relief as sitting in the background. This 2-forward-1-in-relief arrangement is a very traditional representation of the Triple-Asyk, found in museums and literature on classic Turkmen Jewelry. This is a fine Collectible piece of Turkmen Tribal Jewelry in Excellent Condition with a very mild patina.
